Q: Do you support the war in Iraq Bob?
A: Only if I get a complimentary gift card.
I can't believe it. This was in an email. Is this the future of modern foreign policy? You give us a war, we'll give you a complimentary gift card?

This is just bad advertising...Read the "Program Requirements" for getting the gift card. This is one of those deals where you have to sign up for 3 offers on page 1 or 4 offers on page 2, blah, blah, blah...
Doesn't have anything to do with the war, or trying to collect data for a survey...
It has a lot to do with War. These guys are not taking a survey on which car you like. They want to know whether you support the War On Iraq or not. Yeah, they are doing it under a seemingly general marketing program (take three surveys and get a prize), but nonetheless the survey topic seems to be about gauging the popularity of the war.
There is a historical rumor that the "real" purpose of the Spanish American War was as a vehicle to sell more Hearst Papers.
